Wow, yes well, this has been sitting waiting its turn to be repaired/restored for quite a few years. I initially repaired it and had it running and then diagnosed a few other problems that made it "unstable" ; I then put it away for a rainy day to finish, that has been a long time coming. I did also have a L210, repaired that and loved the sound but decided to keep only this L410. Here's a story...back in the day (1978?) I was in England and decided to buy an amp to bring back with me. Funds were limited and I was able to audition in favourable surroundings a number of amplifiers in my price range including Pioneer, Akai, Sansui, Technics, some English ones (Quad and other high end were right out of my budget range) as well as Luxman and Marantz. The Marantz 1060 was clearly the better; clearer mid-range and treble, better bass presentation a close second was the lower priced Luxman, I forget exactly which model but an L5 or similar, there were several to try at the time in the final shoot out, the Marantz and Luxman clearly outperformed the others, the sales man then compared these two brands to the much higher priced models of the previous brands; I finally choose the Marantz 1060 because the Luxman I might have bought was a little too expensive, the Marantz was being discontinued and was on sale. The Marantz was better than the other brands by such a margin had I spent three times the price I would not have got a better amplifier; I would have only got more power! I left with the Marantz completely satisfied...the sales rep then let me know he too had bought a Marantz 1060 for himself. I still have the Marantz, its a keeper. But I often though about the Luxmans.
Anyway this one will get a complete recap and needs some transistors replacing, the differential input pairs in the pre-amp have gone a bit out of spec, enough to put the DC balance off and cause the safety circuit to cut off the speakers. It's now running well and sounds great already.
