I have just repaired one of these, it needed the disk drawer gear wheel replacing and the analog output RCA connectors needed re-soldering. The drawer wheel on Philips/Marantz players is a well known problem, the gear teeth break, the whole wheel can be snapped like a piece of chocolate! The RCA connectors had broken out/dry jointed and needed re-soldering, very easy to get to as the whole base of the player can be removed to expose the circuit board in question. Was it worth it; most definitely! All that has been said about these players is not far from the truth, one of the nicest sounding CD players I have heard, smooth detailed lively, well controlled and more than enough bass. This is a keeper. It beats many/most of the extremely expensive more modern players I have heard without a doubt. This player is stock and has not been modified in any way, thankfully, as I have heard some modified versions that sound, to me, not as good; I would think long and hard before "upgrading" this player.
