Completely different to the 701; the 702 & 703 housing is made from a cast metal heat-sink and custom aluminium extrusions, the case is wide and low rather than the tall oblong box of the 701. The electronic components are on double sided high quality circuit board, these were state of the art and beautifully built and with a sound to match. My McLaren 702 needed the 2 large electrolytics replacing and I finally got round to ordering them and have now just replaced them, they were more than 100uF too high when measured after removal! As you can see the 703 is more than a cosmetic upgrade the boards are laid out differently, from the outside they look very similar. I can't say the sound has improved on the later model, they both sound fantastic and have the same MOSFET signature, slightly warm, detailed, very musical? no listening fatigue, I can and do listen to these for hours, they are keepers and run my main system. If you want any McLarens looked at here is the designers website. The man is an audio design genius if you ask me.
